BREWERS SUPPORT WORLD MENTAL HEALTH DAY

10 October 2020

BURTON Albion midfielder Ryan Edwards has joined the Brewers in showing his support ahead of today's World Mental Health Day, by engaging with several of Burton Albion Community Trust's partners and participants to spread important messages regarding mental health issues.

Edwards joined the guests via Zoom call in order to help educate and encourage them to make one small change or take one action to look after theirs and others mental health.

The EFL and its Clubs have once again come together with charity partner, Mind, to collectively mark today’s occasion, with Mind’s latest research1 revealing that more than 60% of adults and over two thirds of young people (68%) felt their mental health deteriorated during the coronavirus pandemic and lockdown, encouraging conversations around our own mental health and that of others has never been more important.

Mind’s ‘do one thing’ campaign, along with EFL Clubs, will aim to spread the message and encourage people to say thank you to someone deserving within their local communities.

Edwrads first spoke a participant from the EFL Trust’s Tackling Loneliness Together project run in partnership with BACT, before speaking to school children from the nearby Eton Park School to help educate them on the matter.

PFA Community Champion, Edwards, was really pleased to be able to support the day and expressed his willingness to help with more projects regarding mental health in the future.

He said: “It’s a really important topic and I want to support the issue as much as I possibly can. I think the work that Burton Albion Community Trust does around highlighting the matter is amazing.

“I’ve met some fantastic people via the Zoom calls today and I look forward to hopefully seeing them in the future once that we can have supporters back in the stadium.

“It’s been a tough time for everyone recently, but we have to realise that some people will always suffer more than others.

“If I can help to raise awareness and continue to break the stigma around mental, then I’m more than happy to do so.”
