BURTON Albion will host Aston Villa in the second round of the Carabao Cup at the Pirelli Stadium, with a trip to Bristol City or Northampton Town awaiting the winner.
The tie, which will be held at the Pirelli Stadium, is a repeat of our 2018 clash in the same competition at the same stage - Liam Boyce netting the only goal of that game in a famous 1-0 win.
The Brewers spent the last few minutes down to 10 men after Kyle McFadzean was sent off for handball on the line, with former goalkeeper Harry Campbell dramatically saving the resulting penalty on what was his Albion debut.
The second and third round draws were conducted following today's first round clash between Brentford and Wycombe Wanderers, and the winner of this tie will face either Bristol City or Northampton Town AWAY in the third round.
Manager Jake Buxton says the tie is just reward for the efforts of his squad and the club in the Accrington game, and hopes the game will be selected for TV coverage for the benefit of supporters.
"The hard work the boys put in the other night has been rewarded and it's the same for the football club, the hard work everybody has been putting in to getting the ground ready," said Buxton.
"It’s going to be extremely tough against Premier League opposition, which is always the case. But as this club has done for many years, we’ve always punched above our weight in the opposition we’ve faced. It’s a challenge for the lads and a challenge for me and one we'll relish.
"I think it’d be brilliant if we can get it on TV for the supporters to see the players, that would be lovely and support the football club too in these tough times.
"In terms of the third round, for now we won't be looking beyond the games ahead. First and foremost we plan for Tuesday night at Peterborough and then Fleetwood, and then look to put a team out against Villa."
