BURTON ALBION ATTAIN FAMILY EXCELLENCE AWARD FOR THIRD CONSECUTIVE YEAR

10 September 2020

BURTON Albion Football Club has attained the EFL’s Family Excellence award for the third consecutive year.

Having been awarded Family Excellence status in 2018 and 2019, the club has once again been recognised in our efforts to make the Pirelli Stadium matchday experience a memorable and engaging one for families.

The club received two “mystery visits” over the course of the 2019/20 season, in a 0-0 draw against Blackpool in October and the 1-1 draw with Peterborough United in February.

The EFL noted the challenges the club have addressed in creating family experiences in limited space inside the stadium, such as our new Family Zone, advertising on the website and social media and our zero tolerance approach to bad language in the family stand.

The club has also received feedback to help improve its offering to families further in the coming years, which we hope supporters will see the benefit of once supporters are allowed back into stadiums.

Burton Albion Commercial Director Fleur Robinson said: “Achieving Family Excellence status for the third consecutive year demonstrates Burton Albion’s commitment to making the Pirelli Stadium a safe, enjoyable place for families on match days.

“While we know fans cannot currently attend matches, we look forward to welcoming families and fans of all ages back and helping make their experience on a matchday even better, once it is safe to do so.

“We are very proud of the efforts of all Community Trust and club staff, who have worked so hard over the last three years to help improve the family experience on matchdays and work so hard throughout the week, as well as on matchdays, to that end.

“As always, we always value supporter feedback and encourage anyone to let us know about their matchday experience, how it could be improved and what was enjoyed.”

Head of Community Matt Hancock said: “Both Community Trust and club staff have worked so hard over the last three years to improve our matchday experience for families, from the introduction of our new Family Area to making pre-match activities available for families at our Community Centre.

“We are delighted to win the Family Excellence award for a third consecutive year and will continue to work as hard as we can to make the Pirelli Stadium as enjoyable a visit as possible for everyone on matchdays.

“It is excellent to see that the EFL have recognised the challenges we have met and overcome, and we are sure that, once supporters are allowed back into stadiums, that we can continue to make matchdays a memorable experience for all.

“Everyone at Burton Albion and Burton Albion Community Trust remains committed to improving the family experience at the Pirelli Stadium, and we are looking in various ways at how we can do this virtually, as well as in-person.”
