MATCH-winner Jonny Smith said to a man Burton Albion were ‘unbelievable’ in our 1-0 victory over Sunderland at the Pirelli Stadium.
Smith scored the only goal of the game with a wonderfully-struck curled effort in the second half to give Albion the three points.
Smith said: “The front two right to the defence, Omari and Joe Powell have been unbelievable at pressing and helping our midfield get up the pitch.
“To a man it was just unbelievable, a great performance.”
Lightning nearly struck twice for Smith and Albion as the ball found itself to Smith again on the right-hand side. The Burton wide man cut inside and released another shot from a similar area but was denied his second of the game by the woodwork.
Jonny said on his first goal: “I saw the ball drop to me, I really saw the opportunity for shooting and luckily it’s gone in, it was a great feeling.
“I think on the second one, Joe Powell had a go at me for not slipping him in, looking back on it he was probably right.
"The confidence that was inside of me after the first I just thought ‘I’m going to hit this’ - it didn’t go in, but the top would’ve been off if it did.”
Despite three wins from three, Smith says it is an even bigger game on Saturday as we travel to Cambridge United and they must dig deep again, this time away from home.
“It is an even bigger game Saturday now and we have to keep building on what we are doing," said Smith.
"We are nowhere near the finished article yet as the gaffer (Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink) said in the changing room.
“He said that performance is not where he expects us to be, he expects us to be better so we just need to take confidence from it knowing that we can be even better."
