BURTON ALBION SIGN JOSH EARL ON LOAN FROM PRESTON

1 February 2021

BURTON Albion are delighted to confirm the signing of defender Josh Earl on loan from Preston North End until the end of the 2020/21 season.

Earl becomes our eighth signing of the January transfer window and the second player arriving at the club on Transfer Deadline Day.

The 22-year-old, a product of Preston’s Academy, has made seven appearances for the Lilywhites this season, including five in the Championship.

Left-back Earl also has League One experience with loan spells at Ipswich Town and Bolton Wanderers in the last two seasons.

Manager Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink is pleased to add another defensive option to bolster his backline:

“We're delighted that he's coming in from Preston," said Hasselbaink.

"He's somebody who knows the division - a left-back of his stature will strengthen the squad significantly.

"He can play several positions, left-back and left-centre-half, and we're very happy."

Earl was impressed in his first conversations with Hasselbaink and is keen to get forward for the Brewers.

“I’m really excited - it’s a big club that’s been in the Championship a few years ago, and it’s going to be a good place to play games under a good manager,” Earl told iFollow Brewers.

“I’ve spoken to the manager on the phone and I liked what he said to me. He wants (us) to play football.

“Getting consistent game time is big for me at the moment.

“You’ll see me running up and down the pitch, getting up and down is a big part of my game.”

Welcome to Burton Albion, Josh!
