BURTON ALBION SIGN TERRY TAYLOR FROM WOLVES

1 February 2021

BURTON Albion have completed the signing of midfielder Terry Taylor from Premier League side Wolverhampton Wanderers.

The Welsh Under-21 international has signed a two-and-a-half year contract at the Pirelli Stadium, becoming our seventh signing of the January transfer window.

Wolves have agreed to release Taylor from his contract at Molineux after the two clubs agreed a financial package.

Taylor made his senior debut for Wolves last season, coming on as a substitute in a Carabao Cup game away at Aston Villa, as well as making four appearances for Wolves U21s in the Papa John’s Trophy.

This campaign, Taylor has spent the first half of the season on loan at Sky Bet League Two side Grimsby Town, for whom he made 14 appearances across all competitions prior to his recall in January.

Manager Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink is delighted to get Taylor’s deal over the line - and compared the 19-year-old to a popular midfielder from his first spell in charge.

“Terry is a young player that we have been tracking, he’s a defensive midfielder,” said Hasselbaink.

“He’s a number six - a Robbie Weir-type.

“He has big potential and the sky is the limit - whatever he wants to achieve, he will achieve.

“He’s not played that many men’s football games yet but we’re really excited that he’s chosen us to come to for two-and-a-half years, there was a lot of interest in him.”

Taylor, who was born and raised in Aberdeen but qualifies to play for Wales through his mother’s family, is keen to get stuck into League One football, having had his first experience of senior games earlier in the season, and is raring to go in an Albion shirt.

“It feels great and I’m delighted to be here,” Taylor told iFollow Brewers. “I can’t wait to get playing.

“I know Burton have been watching me for a couple of seasons, but I think the real interest came from the new manager.

“Ever since then, the move has intrigued me and luckily we’ve got it done.

“I’m at an important part of my career where I’ve had a taste of league football and I want more, so I’m delighted to be coming to this club.

“It’s a great club for me to come to and perform really well, for myself, the fans, the team and the manager.”

Welcome to Burton Albion, Terry!
