BURTON Albion are delighted to confirm the signing of defender Michael Mancienne on a contract until the end of the 2020/21 season.
The 33-year-old has returned to English football following two years playing in America for MLS side New England Revolution, but has not signed in time for tonight's game away at Blackpool.
Mancienne brings a wealth of Premier League, Championship and Bundesliga experience to the Brewers backline, having started his career at Chelsea, firstly in the club’s youth system and then making four appearances for the first team.
The centre-back spent two seasons on loan at QPR and the next three at Wolves, the last two seasons seeing Mancienne play regularly in the top-flight.
Mancienne subsequently signed for Hamburg in the Bundesliga, making 51 appearances for Die Rothosen before returning to England to play for Nottingham Forest, making 124 league appearances for the Reds over four years before moving to the States.
Manager Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink is pleased to bring Mancienne and his experience to the club.
“We’ve been looking for a centre back throughout the whole of the transfer window," said Hasselbaink.
“He has lots of experience and has played lots of games in higher leagues.
“I’m very happy that he is signing with us.”
Mancienne is keen to demonstrate his experience and help push the Brewers up the Sky Bet League One table.
“It's obviously a pleasure to be here and I'm really grateful that the manager has given me the opportunity to join and help with the battle,” Mancienne told iFollow Brewers.
"I know how to see out games and what the team has to do to win games, so I hope to bring that experience with me."
Welcome to Burton Albion, Michael!
