BURTON ALBION SIGN WINGER DANNY ROWE ON FREE TRANSFER

13 February 2021

BURTON Albion are delighted to confirm the signing of winger Danny Rowe on a free transfer until the end of the season.

Rowe was a free agent, having left Ipswich Town last summer after three years at Portman Road, and the 28-year-old can come straight into the reckoning for today's game at Northampton Town, having been signed and registered in time for the match at Sixfields.

Manager Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink says Rowe brings a real goal threat to his Brewers squad and is looking forward to seeing what the former Bolton Wanderers youth player will bring.

Hasselbaink said: “He will give us pace, directness and hopefully goals and assists. He is a goal threat, and we need more of that and hopefully we can get him going really quickly as we know he is a very good player.

“He had a knee injury a while ago but that is fully behind him now. He wasn’t attached to a club, but he’s getting in love with football again and we want to help him get back to his best.”

Rowe began his career with Stockport County in 2009 before joining Barrow in 2012 and then having two spells at Macclesfield Town between 2013 and 2017.

Mick McCarthy paid an undisclosed fee to Macclesfield in January 2017 to bring Rowe to Ipswich, for whom he made 23 appearances while having two loan spells at Lincoln City.

Rowe's last season at Ipswich was disrupted by a knee injury and then the pandemic, but the winger says that is behind him now and that he is relishing being in regular training and in contention for a matchday squad again.

“I’m delighted to be signing for Burton Albion and I’m really excited to get going," said Rowe.

“I’ve been out since the summer, so it’s great to be in regular training again and to be around the lads.

“I’m feeling good, fitness-wise. Training here is intense and I feel it is really benefiting me.

“The gaffer and Dino seem to have everyone looking really sharp and I feel that I’ve been bought into the club to add some extra creativity and to add to the quality that the squad has already got in it.”

Danny will wear squad number 40 at the Pirelli Stadium. Welcome to Burton Albion, Danny!
