TOM HAMER SIGNS FOR BURTON ALBION FOR SMALL UNDISCLOSED FEE

29 January 2021

BURTON Albion can confirm the signing of defender Tom Hamer from Sky Bet League Two side Oldham Athletic for a small undisclosed fee.

The 21-year-old prospect, who can play right-back or centre-back, has already made more than 100 appearances in all competitions since making his debut for the Latics in 2018.

Hamer has scored six goals from the back in that time, and already has 18 appearances to his name so far this campaign.

He bolsters manager Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink’s defensive options going into the second half of the Sky Bet League One season - and Hasselbaink is delighted to bring in a real prospect in Hamer.

“He’s a right-back from Oldham, only 21 years old and is a big prospect,” said Hasselbaink.

“He’s already played over 80 games in the league, some in League Two and some in League One.

“He has big potential and is a good one for the future, but he can come in and affect our squad straight away.”

Hamer is keen to make the step up and test himself at League One level, having had a taste of third tier football in his first half-season at Oldham.

“I’m buzzing to finally get it over the line and I can’t wait to get going,” Hamer told iFollow Brewers of his move.

“I spoke to the manager. Obviously we know the position we’re in and I’ve come here to try and help get us out of that.

“I can play right-back, centre-half or wing-back, I’m quite a versatile defender. I’m quick, good in the air, can put a tackle in - that’s me.”

Welcome to Burton Albion, Tom!
