MANAGER'S REACTION | BOGNOR REGIS TOWN (A)

10 July 2021

MANAGER Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink was satisfied after his side's 3-0 win at Bognor Regis Town, but emphasised these "early days" are all about building fitness.

As with our first pre-season friendly at Nuneaton Town, Hasselbaink's side were split into two different sides playing 45 minutes apiece, with a goal from a trialist in the first half supported by strikes from Terry Taylor and Louis Moult in the second at Nyewood Lane.

The game in Bognor Regis is part of a training camp the first-team squad have embarked on in the south of England to help build fitness as well as building those all-important relationships within the squad.

And with two productive pre-season friendlies now behind them, the Brewers are looking forward with Hasselbaink keen for his side to maintaie high standards they have shown thus far in training.

"Today was an exercise of keeping everybody fit and getting another 45 minutes under their belt for the majority of the team," said Hasselbaink.

"It’s about getting to know each other, getting some patterns going. In the first half we got ourselves a little too much into trouble but that’s pre-season.

"They’re working very hard in training and overall we’re very happy with the work being done, that the boys are putting in. There’s a really good vibe and it was a good day today.

"It’s early days and there’s still a lot of work to be done and a lot of bonding to be done, but they’re willing to do it and that’s a big step. We just need to keep on going."

The Brewers will have a cool-down day tomorrow (Sunday) before the hard work begins again in earnest on Monday.

"Some hard days’ work!" was Hasselbaink's response when asked what the rest of the training camp has in store.

"Tomorrow we have an easier day, it is a cool-down on Sunday.

"Then from Monday we pick it up, we try to get a little bit sharper with some good tough sessions before going home on Tuesday."
