MANAGER Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink admitted it wasn’t the result his side wanted in tonight’s 2-1 defeat at Scunthorpe United, but was still happy with the levels of fitness shown following a tough pre-season program.
“The boys have worked really hard in training. You can see they have heavy legs and it’s not easy, but that’s what we want,” said Hasselbaink.
“It’s not the result we wanted, but it’s not about the result and it’s about the workout. There are certain areas that we need to improve in, but we are still happy with where we are."
The Brewers will now have a day’s rest before returning to training on Thursday in preparation for Saturday’s first home pre-season game against Leicester City.
“The quality of the opposition will change (against Leicester) and on Saturday we will have to defend as a team a little bit more. The organisation has to be better, but it’s still pre-season, we have to work on certain things and that’s what we’re going to do. That’s why we have those matches.”
Hasselbaink also spoke about his excitement of seeing supporters back in the Pirelli Stadium.
“It will be great to see our fans back in the stadium and to get familiar with our players are so long without being there. We’ve missed them!”
