BURTON Albion are delighted to confirm the signing of centre-back Deji Oshilaja, who will join the Brewers once his contract at Charlton Athletic expires.
He becomes the third confirmed signing of our summer, following left-back Cameron Borthwick-Jackson and winger Omari Patrick through the Pirelli Stadium door.
Oshilaja began his career with Cardiff City and following loan spells at Newport County, Sheffield Wednesday, AFC Wimbledon and Gillingham, the centre-half signed for the Dons on a free transfer in 2017.
After two years at Kingsmeadow, Oshilaja signed for Charlton in the summer of 2019, going on to make 47 appearances for the Addicks in all competitions.
“I’m very happy - having spoken to the manager and his ideas for me, the season and the project he’s putting together here, I just couldn’t wait to get it done," Oshilaja told iFollow Brewers.
“I spoke to him a couple of weeks ago and he was telling me how important I would be, with the attributes I have and what I can bring to the club.
“Having played against Burton last season, I know it’s been a good team since he came in. I thought I could definitely add to that, he said that too and I was really happy that he was interested in me.
“I’ve played a lot of games in League Two, League One and the Championship. He believes I’m a top player and when you hear that, you’re excited to go and work for a manager so I’ll work hard for the team and for the club.
“I like getting on the ball, get it down and I like to play. But I like keeping clean sheets, that’s for sure, and the aim is to keep as many of them as possible and build from there.”
“Deji is a versatile player who can play left-back, right-back, centre-half and defensive midfield," said Hasselbaink.
"He’s got lots of experience in League One and the Championship. I like his athleticism, he’s a defensive-minded player who knows the league and has lots of experience.
"He’s a really good addition to our squad.”
Welcome to Burton Albion, Deji!
