THE Pirelli Stadium Vaccination Centre has hit a new high with more than 4,000 people receiving Covid-fighting jabs over a single weekend.
The home of Burton Albion has become an important Vaccination Centre where more than 85,000 doses have now been given to more than 60,000 people since the programme started In December.
Burton Albion FC has donated the facility and Burton Albion Community Trust has organised the programme, working with the NHS staff.
Such has been the success of the initiative, that BACT is now taking over managing the operation for the Primary Care Trust until the vaccination programme is complete at the end of the summer.
Matt Hancock, BACT’S Head of Community, said: “It has been an amazing effort from day one and none of it would have been possible without more than 100 plus volunteers who have worked long hours into the evening and at weekends to make sure we give as many doses as possible.
“These are life-saving efforts which are protecting people from coronavirus and helping us to get our normal lives back.
“This weekend we saw yet another step up in the number of vaccinations being given out with even more first and second doses delivered.
“The people of East Staffordshire have every right to be proud of what has been achieved here with the club, trust, NHS and volunteers all working seamlessly together.
“But we haven’t finished yet and we will be carrying on this amazing work as long as it is needed.”
Burton Albion Chairman Ben Robinson said: “I can’t praise the efforts of those working at the Vaccination Centre enough. This is a truly remarkable effort and as a football club we always wanted to be at the heart of the pandemic response and I think everyone can see that we are delivering on that.
“Vaccinations are one of the key ways out of this pandemic, and I would urge everyone who is eligible and who is called for a vaccination to take up the offer.
“You can rest assured that you will receive a warm welcome and that you will be well looked after.”
