GEOFF MILLER SPORTING DINNER HELD AT PIRELLI STADIUM

25 November 2021

FORMER England cricketer Geoff Miller OBE was at the Pirelli Stadium tonight for Burton Albion's annual Sporting Dinner.

Geoff played in 34 Tests for his country and 25 One Day Internationals between 1976 and 1984. He is also a former player and captain of Derbyshire having been with the county from 1973 to 1986. He went on to be an England selector and President of Derbyshire.

He has become a well-known and popular figure on the after dinner speaking circuit and he entertained guests at the Pirelli Stadium with stories of his life in cricket.

He said: “It’s a pleasure to have been here tonight.

"I've been before and it's always a great crowd at the Pirelli Stadium. Burton Albion's a great club and Pirelli Stadium is a great venue for events - I thoroughly enjoyed it."

After a four-course meal guests not only listened to Geoff Miller but another guest speaker, comedian Ivan Brackenbury - hosted by club Hall of Fame inductee Aaron Webster and Reece Brown from Burton Albion Community Trust.

The Sporting Dinner is an annual event at the Pirelli Stadium and once again attracted a packed house with Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink and Dino Maamria in attendance.

Hasselbaink said, "It was a great evening - Geoff and Ivan were very funny.

"I've been to a few of the Sporting Dinner events here at the Pirelli now and I'd highly recommend them as they're great entertainment.

Previous Sporting Dinners have featured Kevin Keegan, Peter Shilton and Bruce Grobbelaar.

Burton Albion Chairman Ben Robinson said: “It was great to see the return of this popular occasion to the Pirelli Stadium after a Covid break and I’m sure all of our guests enjoyed some great food and some terrific entertainment.

“I want to thank Geoff for joining us and entertaining us so richly with his wonderful stories.”

An amazing £3,135 was raised for the Burton Albion Community Trust charity at tonight's event. Thank you so much to everyone that has contributed.
