MANAGER'S VERDICT: DONCASTER ROVERS

27 November 2021

JIMMY Floyd Hasselbaink said there was only going to be one winner as the Brewers battled the cold and high winds to record their second home win of the week.

Goals from Tom O’Connor and Daniel Jebbison earned the Brewers a 2-0 success over Doncaster Rovers.

Hasselbaink was delighted with another clean sheet and thought his side could have won by more.

He said: “I think there was only one winner today. We created a good amount of chances but we need to be more clinical to make it a lot easier for ourselves. The number of chances we created, which were good chances, the opportunities we had to day, we should have had more goals.”

Indeed, Hasselbaink was disappointed to go in at the break 0-0.

He said: “It’s important not to lose your heads and go chasing things but to keep on going, keep working and doing the right things. We did that and scored from a set play, which was good, and from then we kept on creating and putting pressure on them and that was really pleasing to see.

“Kane Hemmings could have two goals easily, Jonny Smith hit the post and could have had two or three, Daniel could have had more.”

Initially it looked like Albion’s second goal had been ruled out by the officials.

Hasselbaink said: “I think the linesman thought it was offside, but the ball came from their player so that’s why he gave it. Any goal however it comes, we take it, and we were on top at that point and causing them a lot of trouble. We deserved to win.”

The second goal was a delightful flick from Jebbison.

The manager said: “Daniel is causing the opposition real problems inside the box, outside the box and that’s what we want. He’s got a lot it’s just putting it all in place at the right time.

“I’m really pleased with the clean sheet as well and we now look to Port Vale next week.

“It’s a big game for us. We want to stay in the FA Cup. It will be a feisty one and they will want to win as well but we will do everything we can to be in the hat again.”
