MANAGER'S PREVIEW: ASTON VILLA U21S (H)

4 October 2021

BURTON Albion may make changes for tonight's Papa John’s Trophy clash against Aston Villa U21s at the Pirelli Stadium but manager Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink is keen to go as strong as possible tonught.

The Brewers will be looking to get off the mark in Southern Group C following a narrow defeat to MK Dons last month, against a Villa side who won their opening fixture 3-1 over Wycombe Wanderers.

That follows last weekend's 1-1 draw at AFC Wimbledon - and while Hasselbaink says there will be some rotation for tonight's game (7pm kick-off) at the Pirelli Stadium, the Brewers are intent on winning and aiming to progress in the Papa John's Trophy.

“There will be a few changes, some of the boys need some minutes," said Hasselbaink.

"But it is also a game that we want to win.

“I will assess the team and then make sure we put the strongest squad together for this game.”

Hasselbaink also offered an update on the injury picked up by John Brayford just 10 seconds into the draw against Wimbledon. as well as an update on Michel Mancienne’s fitness

“We are going to have a look, it’s his hamstring, a second one in two games for us," said Hasselbaink.

“Mancienne needs a whole week of training, he’s only had one training session which was on Friday.

“I think it will be a little bit too early for him at the moment to come back.”
