THE Pirelli Stadium will be hosting the annual YMCA Sleepout on Friday raising vital funds to tackle homelessness.
The annual event had to be held virtually last year due to the pandemic, and although supporters have this option again on Friday, they can also return to the Pirelli Stadium.
The Sleepout asks people to give up their bed for one night and help make a lifetime of difference to someone who has nowhere to stay.
Homelessness can happen to any one of us. It has no boundaries and lives and circumstances can change very quickly.
Burton YMCA needs your help to raise vital funds for its services and the Sleepout is key fundraiser for the charity.
Burton Albion chairman Ben Robinson is also President of Burton YMCA.
He said: “Every year we ask people to give up their bed for one night only, to sleep in a cardboard box so that others don’t have to.
“Last year with the COVID guidelines, this event was held virtually with people sleeping out in several places - their garden, garage, sofa, kitchen floor, car and someone even stayed in a cave overnight.
“This year we are welcoming people back to Pirelli Stadium and offering the option to take part virtually too as many people enjoyed the flexibility of this last year.
“The Sleepout is a thought-provoking experience. Having taken part for many years, I never fail to feel truly humbled by the YMCA’s efforts after a night sleeping in a cardboard box.
“It is a fantastic opportunity to listen to the stories of the people they help and the many lives they change.
“I appreciate that this experience isn’t for everyone and alternatively, a donation to the YMCA Sleepout campaign would be gratefully received as the charity aims to raise £50,000 with this event this year.”
