MANAGER'S PREVIEW- WIGAN ATHLETIC (A)

29 October 2021

JIMMY Floyd Hasselbaink says his side will look to immediately bounce back from last week’s defeat against Oxford United, as Burton Albion travel to the DW Stadium tomorrow to take on Wigan Athletic in Sky Bet League One, 3pm kick off.

The Brewers manager said that despite last week’s disappointing performance, his side have now moved on and feel confident going into the game after a full week on the training field.

“We don’t really want to dwell too long on Oxford.

“We know we need a reaction following Saturday, but we also want to keep the spirit level in the team as high as possible.

“On Saturday other things went wrong, rather than just not being clinical in the final third. We approached that as just a blip and we will see on Saturday if we can get the right reaction.

“We feel good, we feel confident. It’s going to be a tough one, but it always is when you go up there (to Wigan).”

Albion have gone slightly longer without a game opposed to tomorrow’s opponents, with Wigan losing 2-1 at home to Lincoln City on Tuesday night.

Hasselbaink says his side need to stop Wigan coming out of the traps early and prevent them from gaining any early belief in tomorrow’s game.

“They are going to want to start well and come out with confidence straight away, and we need to try and stop them from getting that confidence.

“We need to go there and gain the right to have joy in the game and to make sure we are at our best.

“If we do that, we have every chance to get the right result from the game.”

Hasselbaink also confirmed that his side has no fresh injury worries going into tomorrow’s game.
