OSHILAJA: A GAME WE CAN LEARN FROM

25 October 2021

DEJI Oshilaja says the squad was disappointed after suffering a 3-1 defeat at home to Oxford United.

Oshilaja said the loss was a game the team can learn from.

“I’m disappointed! It felt like we gave them some soft goals at crucial times in the game.

“To concede so early on in the game is disappointing having been so solid in the last game and I think that’s the general consensus of the group.

“We know they’re a good side, but we had a good game plan, sometimes it’s difficult to keep and when you concede so early the game plan can go out the window.

“We did keep on going and to concede again just before half time was a bit of a kick in the teeth.

“It’s one of those things we can learn from, but we’ll pick ourselves up and go again.”

The Brewers found themselves 2-0 down at half-time, before Charlie Lakin pulled one back with his first Albion goal on the 80-minute mark. The visitors were then awarded a penalty just four minutes later which confirmed the three points for Oxford.

Despite the loss, long serving Brewer Lucas Akins made appearance number 300 for Burton Albion. Oshilaja spoke about his team mate following the match and congratulated the frontman on a 'great achievement'.

“It’s a great achievement and he has been a great servant to the club.

“I have played many games against Lucas here over the years and he has always been consistently good. The fans really love him and all the players appreciate him.

“To get 300 appearances for any club is an amazing achievement and one you don’t really see anymore so it is testament to his character and quality.”
