MANAGER'S PREVIEW: PORTSMOUTH (H)

27 September 2021

JIMMY Floyd Hasselbaink says he expects a different challenge from Portsmouth to that of last season when they visit the Pirelli Stadium tomorrow night (7.45pm kick-off).

And the Brewers boss is looking forward to another good atmosphere under the Pirelli lights for the visit of Pompey.

The Brewers will welcome Danny Cowley's side to the Pirelli Stadium in what will be the second of back-to-back home games on Tuesday night.

Last season, Hasselbaink's Brewers recorded a memorable win at Fratton Park when Joe Powell's stunning long-range free-kick and a unique finish from Mike Fondop secured a 2-1 win.

But with Cowley now having a full pre-season to work with his side, Hasselbaink is expecting an even tougher test at the Pirelli tomorrow.

“They are a bit different now - they play with more energy and a higher intensity," said Hasselbaink.

“They are a very good team, a big club and I’m hoping that will make the atmosphere on Tuesday night very good - hopefully it will be a good night for us.”

Hasselbaink also said there are no new injuries in the Albion squad, with Charlie Lakin returning from a one-match suspension in time for the midweek clash, after being dismissed for two yellow cards away at Crewe last week.

“There are no new injuries again, everyone is looking okay at the moment," confirmed Hasselbaink.

“Charlie is back available for tomorrow. There will be a couple of changes across the squad also, but not too many.”
