JOHN Brayford has been named as the Burton Albion 2021/22 PFA Community Champion.

The PFA Community Champion award recognises PFA members who provide great support to their club’s community activities during the season.

Club Captain Brayford has played an integral part in reintegrating his teammates into community projects following the pandemic.

This season John has now taken the role of leading on all coordination aspects of player appearances that are both club and Community Trust lead.

After five years of being back at the club in his second spell with the Brewers, Brayford has been also played a big part in bringing new suggestions and ideas to the ways that his teammates can best get involved in community projects.

Matt Hancock, Head of Community, said: “John has gone above and beyond this season to support the work that the club delivers in the community.

“He’s stepped in at short notice numerous times this season, as well as attending appearances on his day off.

“He’s everything that you want in a Club Captain, and he’s also been great at using his social media platforms to help the increase the reach of the work that we deliver at Burton Albion.

“John now knows the local area well now and understands as well as anybody the ethos of what our club is about.”

On winning the award, Brayford, who is also the club’s ambassador for health, said: “I love doing work in the community at this club.

“It’s a fantastic community club and over the years it’s helped me to learn how important it is to give something back, especially in the privileged roles that me and my teammates have.

“I do all I can to help local causes and I feel that it’s important for me to set an example to the other lads in the squad.”

John received the award as part of the EFL Week of Action at a Burton Albion Community Trust junior disability programme.
