MANAGER'S VERDICT: ACCRINGTON

15 April 2022

JIMMY Floyd Hasselbaink thought his team had opportunities to take all three points at Accrington but had to settle for a third 0-0 draw in a row.

The manager is pleased that Albion have put defensive frailties behind them and have now stopped Plymouth, Wigan and Accrington from scoring but feels his team have deserved more points over the three games.

He said: “We had the chances to win the game. In the first half they were better without really creating very much. We didn’t have the intensity we had in the previous two games but in the second half we were much better, created three really good chances and didn’t score.

“We want to get those opportunities, so it was very disappointing as there was so much more in the game for us.

“Of course, we take good things from this but to come here and create that number of chances, we need to come back with three points. They will say they had opportunities as well, but we had more clear-cut chances to win the game.

“We aren’t conceding, we are creating chances, we just want to score them now. We have created chances in all the last three games and missed them. We could have had had three wins.

“That’s where we need to get better. I have told them as well that we need to be more clinical and if we only get one chance, we have to take that chance. We have to keep working, keep believing and those goals will come.

“But I would take these three performances any day of the week. I like clean sheets and that has to be our mentality.”

The Brewers now face Rotherham at the Pirelli Stadium on Tuesday with a 7.45pm kick off.

Hasselbaink said: “That will be another tough one and we need to get another good performance.”
