EFL COMMUNITY PROJECT OF THE SEASON AWARD FOR BURTON ALBION

25 April 2022

BURTON Albion have claimed the Community Project of the Season accolade at the 2022 EFL Awards ceremony in London.

The award recognises the most unique and impactful Community Project of the Season, with the divisional winners also celebrated earlier this week at the Houses of Parliament.

Burton Albion were recognised for their Vaccination Centre, with over 250,000 vaccinations administered at the Pirelli Stadium as the trust took over the operational running, with no charge to the NHS. Those doses represented more than 20 nurses working full time for a whole year, nearly the total number working in practices across the Staffordshire Primary Care Network.

Matt Hancock, Head of Community for Burton Albion Community Trust, said: "It's great because we're able to celebrate with so many people that allowed the vaccination centre to happen.

"It's been two-and-a-half-years of really hard work. That's the bit that's overwhelming. It's not just about the vaccination, it's been about working in our community with the most vulnerable and supporting those that needed us when they needed us most.

"The Football Club and the Community Trust have always been about that."
