MANAGER'S VERDICT: WYCOMBE

30 April 2022

JIMMY Floyd Hasselbaink blamed his team’s errors for the Brewers 2-1 defeat in the final game of the season against Wycombe.

Gassan Ahadme got on the scoresheet for Albion but a goal each half for the visitors saw them take three points and book a place in the play offs.

Hasselbaink said: “It was a defeat we caused ourselves. We were the better team at times but there’s a reason we they are in the play offs and we are 16th.

“If you look at it, the game sums up the season. We had good chances, but you can see in the final third that’s where we lack, where we should be calmer and that’s where we need to improve.

“It’s frustrating, but we work at it, and we keep believing and improving.”

The manager praised Ahadme who came on as second half sub.

“He came on and played well and got us back in the game and that’s what you need when you have had a setback. I like his reaction and that tells me what he can do.”

The Brewers now go into the close season so how does Hasselbaink sum up 2021/22?

He said: “We should have had more points, the game today demonstrates that as we should have won again but ended up with nothing.

“But at least we are creating chances and playing well. The question now is can we score more goals and that has to be the aim.

“I’m going to try and switch off a little bit now, but we have a few targets and in the background we will try and do some business.”
