MAAMRIA ON SHAUGHNESSY, ROCHDALE, CARABAO CUP AND MORE

8 August 2022

DINO Maamria wants to see Burton Albion putting in a good performance both for themselves and for the fans in our Carabao Cup first round clash at Rochdale tomorrow night.

The Brewers head to Crown Oil Arena looking to kick-start our 2022/23 season following two defeats in the first two league games of the season.

Tomorrow's clash sees Albion heading to the Dale, themselves having suffered defeats in their opening two league games, and assistant manager Maamria thinks following Saturday's defeat to Bristol Rovers with another game just days later can be a positive for his side.

Maamria also confirmed that although the club will not be appealing Conor Shaughnessy's red card from the weekend, meaning the centre-back will miss tomorrow's game, there are no new fitness concerns ahead of tomorrow night.

"Everybody is good, and I think it's good for us after Saturday to have a Tuesday game," said Maamria.

"Everybody is looking forward to it. The Carabao Cup is a good competition for the club and we're going to put our strongest team possible out to try to get to the next round and get our season going.

"We need to get our house in order - we're coming off the back of two defeats, two bad performances - so firstly let's make sure we put in a good performance for our fans and for ourselves and hopefully progress to the next round.

"(With Conor) although our players and their players agreed there was no contact, it’s not conclusive in the video footage.

"Conor’s going to miss tomorrow night’s game and then he will be back Saturday, so there’s no need for us to go through all that (appeal process) because we might end up with a bigger punishment."

Maamria is expecting a good game between two sides looking for their first win of the campaign tomorrow - and expects Rochdale to go as strong as possible to that end.

"They had a tough start with two defeats, but against tough sides in Crewe and Gillingham," said Maamria.

"I'm sure they'll be having meetings and they'll try to pick the best team possible to win the game tomorrow.

"It should be a cracking game and with both teams looking for that first result, we'll have to be ready."
