BURTON ALBION WOMEN TO PLAY AT PIRELLI STADIUM ON 3G PITCH FOR 2022/23 SEASON

15 August 2022

THE Brewers are #BackinBurton - Burton Albion's Women's first team will be playing their home games on the 3G pitch at the Pirelli Stadium for the 2022/23 season!

The success of England's Lionesses, who won the 2022 European Championships in front of a sold-out Wembley crowd last month, has shown that there is no better time to back your local women's football side.

The club can also confirm that the Women's first team will play on the main pitch at the Pirelli Stadium later this season, with a date to be confirmed, in front of fans!

The new campaign sees Albion lining up in the West Midlands Regional Football League - looking to push on under the management of Tommy Booth and Kristian Gilbert with the majority of last season's playing squad signed on for the new season.

While everyone at the club is naturally excited to be playing in Burton upon Trent again, we remain incredibly grateful to everyone at Rocester FC and Hillsfield - our home for the last few seasons - for their hospitality and help in recent years.

Our brand new Development Squad will also be competing this year in the Staffordshire Girls and Ladies Premier Division, with the Brewers U18s taking to the Central Warwickshire Girls League U18 Premier.

Brewers captain Amber-Leigh Denny - one of several players signed up for 2022/23 - is excited by the prospect of Burton Albion returning to the town, and the possibility of playing in front of even more fans.

"It's brilliant news and all the girls are buzzing to be playing in the town again," said Denny. "Rocester has been a really good home for us these past few seasons and we've really enjoyed it there.

"But the opportunity to represent the town and to play at the Community Football Centre this season is really, really exciting for us all.

"We've got a real point to prove this season. We battled hard last year but suffered relegation, and make no mistake, we want to put that right and come straight back up."

"We have some really interesting home games coming up in the first few weeks of the season so we definitely urge as many fans aspossible to come down, back us and roar us on!"

Goalkeeper Alice Langstone said: "Last season may not have ended how we wanted, but everyone is feeling so positive about the new campaign and we can't wait to get started.

"Playing at the Pirelli, on the same pitch we meet and train on, is going to be a massive boost for us and I'm so excited to get started on September 4.

"As Amber has said, please come down and back us - we would love to see as many Brewers fans there as possible on Sundays.

"The success of the Lionesses has shown the appetite for women's football in this country - so there's no better time as we return to Burton to back your local side."

Burton Albion Chairman Ben Robinson said: "We're delighted to have our Women's First Team back in Burton and we're sure they have a big season ahead.

"Everyone at the club wishes both of our first teams the very best for the 2022/23 season, and we urge as many fans as possible to head down and back the Brewers on Saturdays and Sundays!"
