JIMMY Floyd Hasselbaink was happy with a win and four goals as the Brewers recorded a first victory of the season in the Papa Johns Trophy against Leicester City U21s.
After a lightening start the Brewers ran out 4-2 winners to give them a chance of progressing through the group stage of the competition for the first time.
It was also an important confidence booster ahead of Saturday’s Sky Bet League One game at Oxford.
The manager said: “It’s a win and that’s important for the boys, for everybody. There were a lot of good things tonight, especially in the first 20 minutes. A lot to be encouraged about and a lot of high energy.
“But then you need to keep that professionalism and that’s where we need to get better; to keep at it. We stopped doing the right things and that’s the side we need to take out of our game. We need to stay professional and when we get four goals, go for five and then for six - that’s what good teams do. They keep going.”
There were two more goals for Gassan Ahadme, and a first strike of the season for Victor Adeboyejo.
Hasselbaink said: “It will do them good, and we are creating chances and scoring goals. We need to carry on doing that but make sure we aren’t too open. And that’s not just the back four or five, that’s everybody. We need to react a lot more quickly when we lose the ball.
“But this will do them good; remind them they can win and give them a good feeling.”
It’s transfer deadline day on Thursday and Hasselbaink is still looking to be active before the window closes.
He said: “We need help. We need more depth and to improve the team. We need people challenging for places as players do better when their shirt is on the line. We also need players to go so we want to do business.”
The manager confirmed that the club has had offers for Louis Moult but, as yet, nothing had been finalised.
