BURTON ALBION PROUD TO SUPPORT DEREK'S TREE

12 December 2022

BREWERS staff and supporters have helped make Christmas special for children who might otherwise miss out by handing over presents to a Burton charity.

Derek's Tree is based in Burton and every year collects presents for disadvantaged children in the local community.

This year, there will be wide support across Burton Albion with the club collecting donations from members of the men’s and women’s first teams, the Academy and girls’ teams, as well as staff from the club and Burton Albion Community Trust.

Brewers manager Dino Maamria was on hand to deliver the presents to Paula Davies, the chair of the Derek’s Tree charity.

He said: “We are delighted to have been able to support this great charity. Christmas can be a very tough time for families who face financial hardship and that’s why we wanted to help. Our community trust works very hard at this time of year making sure we offer help where its needed most.”

Dan Robinson Academy Manager said: “We have supported Derek’s Tree for the last five or six years and it’s really important from our players’ point of view to be about supporting all kinds of people from all walks life. At this time of year, it’s very important to our staff and players to do things like this.”

Derek’s Tree expects to hand out around 3,000 presents this Christmas.

Paula said: “It’s 29 years for Derek’s Tree this Christmas and we have a lot of extra children this year with more and more phone calls about children who need to go on the list.

“Every year we come to Burton Albion and every year it’s amazing as every single gift goes to someone who doesn’t have anything.”
