MAAMRIA BELIEVES HIS SIDE CAN GO INTO FOREST GREEN GAME FULL OF CONFIDENCE

28 December 2022

DINO Maamria says his side can travel to tomorrow night’s game at Forest Green Rovers full of confidence, following on from the Boxing Day victory over Lincoln City.

As the busy festive schedule continues, Maamria believes that despite a tough test lies ahead, his Albion side can arrive at The New Lawn Stadium full of self-belief for the task ahead (7.45pm kick-off).

“We’ve came off a tough run of games where we’ve played against top teams in this league – now we find ourselves in a position where we’re playing teams that are closer to us and we cannot take those games lightly. This is a real chance, just as it’s a chance for them (Forest Green and Morecambe), to pick up as many points as possible.

“It’s the last 23 games of the league season, we need to win a lot of football matches and we cannot let games like these go by.

“Obviously, our preparation has been a little bit different over the Christmas period. We had nine days without a game after the Barnsley game - those nine days were used as preparation, not just for the Lincoln game, but also for the Forest Green and Morecambe games, as we knew the turnaround was going to be very close.

“We have no reason to go into tomorrow night’s game without confidence. We come off the back of a fantastic performance, a fantastic result, and a clean sheet.

“Our away performances haven’t been great this season – I’ve got to remind the players of the Exeter performance and what it took for us to win their and to get the clean sheet. My job is to get the team up again for this huge game for us!

“Our fans have been magnificent in understanding the situation that we’re in. They know about the tough run of games that we’ve been through and have seen us pick up some good points – the draw to Derby, the draw to Plymouth, the Peterborough game, where we’ve played well without picking up the wins. Before Lincoln we’d been threatening to give that type of performance and that’s exactly what we did.

“Now, we have to kick on, there is no two ways about it. It’s the turn of the year next week, we have to learn from the mistakes that we’ve made in the past and we have to kick on as a team.”
