BREWERS Assistant Manager Dino Maamria gave an update on injuries within the squad ahead of tomorrow’s away trip to Portsmouth.
Dino confirmed that John Brayford and Sam Hughes are doubtful for tomorrow, while Deji Oshilaja came off clutching his hamstring in Saturday’s 2-0 defeat to Sheffield Wednesday. Ryan Leak will also miss out due to a facial related injury suffered a few weeks ago.
“We have a few to assess for tomorrow, I think Jonny (Smith) is off for a scan today.”
“Ryan Leak is still out of the picture with his injury, Deji came off last game too.”
“John Brayford is a doubt for tomorrow, as is Sam Hughes so this morning we have a few sore bodies.”
“It’s always going to be a challenge when a player is carrying a little knock on Saturday and then they have a game on Tuesday. We don’t want to risk them as it could have a long term effect.”
“It’s a tough period, we have to manage a lot of the players, a lot of work will go in and we have to manage it properly.”
Speaking on tomorrow’s opponents, Maamria said he expects Pompey to come out fighting despite having a tough start to the New Year.
“Since the new year they’ve had a tough time, but I know Dan and Nicky very well. They are resilient and always come back stronger and like anyone else, I am sure they will pick a team that will come out and fight tomorrow.”
“They are a big club and are in a position they aren’t happy with, and I think they will select a team that responds well to that tomorrow.”
