MANAGER PREVIEW | CAMBRIDGE UNITED (H)

11 February 2022

BURTON Albion manager Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink confirmed that defenders John Brayford and Sam Hughes should return against Cambridge United tomorrow.

The Brewers take on the U's at the Pirelli Stadium tomorrow (3pm kick-off).

Hasselbaink addressed the media today and spoke on injuries to Deji Oshilaja (hamstring) and Jonny Smith (calf), as well as confirming the return of defenders Brayford (hamstring) and Hughes (illness) after all four missed the defeat at Portsmouth in midweek.

“It will be a couple of weeks before Deji is back with us.” Confirmed Hasselbaink

“John Brayford and Sam Hughes are both back for tomorrow. Sam Hughes just had an illness; he is now back.

“Jonny Smith has had a little tear on his calf so he won’t be back for tomorrow or Tuesday, it might be that he is back next weekend.”

Despite the Brewers producing some hard-fought comebacks to go behind and claim all three points this season, Hasselbaink admitted that his side need to stop going behind first in matches.

“We need to get back to scoring the first goal and getting our noses in front," said the Brewers boss. "As well as that, we need to focus on keeping more clean sheets.

"It’s been too long in our mind since we last kept one, so it is ideal that we can try and get back to doing that.”

Speaking on tomorrow's game, Hasselbaink said his side need to try and take away what ever confidence the opponent has in order to take control of the game.

“It’s more about us capitalising on whoever comes against us, we need to put in a good performance," he said.

“Whether a team has low confidence or high confidence, we need to snatch any of that confidence away tomorrow by us performing in the correct way.

“We need to bring the energy, make the correct runs and pass the ball right and really work their goalkeeper.”
