BURTON ALBION SIGN GOALKEEPER MATEJ KOVAR ON LOAN FROM MANCHESTER UNITED

31 January 2022

BURTON Albion are excited to announce the signing of goalkeeper Matej Kovar on loan from Manchester United until the end of the season.

Kovar, who went out on loan to Swindon Town during the 2020-21 and recalled halfway through the campaign joins up with the Brewers for the remainder of the 2021-22 season.

The Czech goalkeeper has represented his country at multiple youth levels including Under-18s and Under-21s level. The young shot stopper made 19 appearances at Under 23 level for Manchester United as well as appearing in the UEFA Youth League for the Red Devils.

After training with the first team on multiple occasions, Kovar was part of the travelling squad for United’s squad and was an unused sub against FC Astana in the 2019/20 Europa League campaign.

Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink says Matej will be a great addition to the squad and provide competition to Ben Garratt in the Brewers net.

“Kovar will come in and make life hard for Ben and provide some good competition at the club," said Hasselbaink.

“He will add some great competition, he is a young keeper and we felt like we needed another one in the door.”

Welcome to the Brewers Matej!
