HASSELBAINK OFFERS UPDATES ON SQUAD, FITNESS, JOE POWELL, TRANSFERS AND MORE

6 July 2022

BURTON Albion manager Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink spoke to iFollow Brewers following our 2-1 pre-season victory away at Stratford Town.

The Brewers boss offered updates on the fitness of club captain John Brayford, the latest on Joe Powell's contract situation, the likelihood of transfers in the coming days and much, much more.

Here are some of the highlights from the gaffer's post-match interview.

ON THE STRATFORD GAME:

"There were good things and bad things, but that’s pre-season. You try different things out and put your stamp on certain things, and get us to play, get confidence, get fitter and work hard.

"The majority of those things I think we did. There were too many turnovers at times but it’s pre-season - we’re still working on a lot of things and that won’t stop."

ON GOALS FOR KEILLOR-DUNN AND MOULT:

"It’s always good for them to score goals. We want to score more goals and create more chances. We can be more dominant and calmer in the opposition’s half, we don’t have to be so rushed at times. At times it was good, and it was a good practice at Stratford.

"It was a good game - at times they pressed, at times they dropped off, and that’s good for us. It was a good workout for us.

ON RECRUITMENT:

"Not as quick as we want to - but if we want good players, we have to be patient at times. We are happy that we could bring in Davis and we hopefully can bring in a few more."

ON JOE POWELL'S CONTRACT OFFER:

"The offer will still stay on the table. We have made him a very good offer, we want him to stay.

"He is in a position that he can look at other things as well, and hopefully he will make a decision and he stays - he signs and he can start the work again."

ON JOHN BRAYFORD'S INJURY AT STRATFORD:

"John is going to be okay. His Achilles is a little bit sore but Bray is a warrior and he’s going to be fine."
