MANAGER'S VERDICT: NOTTINGHAM FOREST

12 July 2022

JIMMY Floyd Hasselbaink was encouraged by the performance against Premier League Nottingham Forest as the Brewers build up to the new League One season.

The Albion manager was pleased with the workout as the Brewers lost narrowly 1-0 at the Pirelli Stadium.

He said: “We played well and there were some really good performances, some really good periods in the game.

“Defensively we want to be challenged and you will get that against Nottingham Forest as they are a good team.

“There’s still a lot of work to be done but I think we coped well. It was very encouraging and most importantly, everyone came off with no problems.”

Hasselbaink now turns his attentions to recruitment and says that he is inching closer to the signings he wants to make.

He said: “We are working very hard, and we are now close on a couple and hopefully we will put them to bed.

“If we can get them done, I think the fans will be happy with them.

“We have tried to get some players in, and they have ended up going to other clubs. It has been difficult, but we have to be patient and make the right decisions.

“We don’t want quantity, we want quality.”

The Brewers are next in action against Birmingham on Saturday competing for the Bass Charity Vase.

Hasselbaink said: “The fans always turn up and support the Bass Vase and I hope they will turn up in numbers on Saturday. We hope we can put on a good show against Birmingham and help raise funds for some good causes.”
