POST-MATCH VERDICT: BIRMINGHAM CITY

16 July 2022

BURTON Albion assistant manager Dino Maamria said that after games against Premier League Nottingham Forest and Championship Birmingham City that things are starting to take shape for the Brewers.

Albion went down 2-1 to the Blues in the Bass Charity Vase game at the Pirelli Stadium but there was plenty to please Maamria.

He said: "Today I thought we controlled the ball really well, created good chances and should have scored one or two in the first half. We can work on that.

“Last season I don’t think we controlled the ball enough - certainly not as we would like to. We want to control possession a lot more, manage transition, and if we can’t go forward we still have to keep the ball. That’s what we are trying to do and I think there were some good signs there against a Championship side.

“I thought we controlled the first half and I though we did well on Tuesday against Forest as well.

“We are not getting carried away but we can see glimpses of the way we are trying to play.”

Albion brought in three new signings before the game but Maamria hinted that there was more to come.

He said: “I don’t think we are done yet. We need one or two more bodies. We are working readlly hard to get a couple more in but we will just have to wait and see.”

The Brewers are next in action at Brackley on Tuesday night before completing the home pre-season programme against Sheffield United on Friday night (7.30pm kick off).
