JOE POWELL SIGNS NEW BURTON ALBION CONTRACT

19 July 2022

BURTON Albion Football Club is delighted to confirm that midfielder Joe Powell has signed a new two-year contract at the club.

The popular midfielder was out of contract as of June 30 and had offers from other clubs on the table, but after considering his options carefully has committed his immediate future to the Brewers.

Powell initially signed for Albion in January 2020 on a two-and-a-half year deal, going on to make 92 appearances for us and scoring 15 goals including our 2020/21 Goal of the Season - a stunning 40-yard free-kick away at Portsmouth.

Now Powell is raring to go again in 2022/23.

"It's amazing - I got the final call yesterday to make my way up and I was smiling all the way," said Powell.

"I'm excited to get going again - the club means a lot to me. I've had the time to take myself away - a few options came up and I've wanted to do myself the justice to assess them, but ultimately this is the best place for me to be.

"There were always conversations between me and the gaffer (Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink) - he was telling me he really wanted me back and that was really good to hear."

"We're so pleased that Powelly has signed for the next few years," said Hasselbaink.

"We've said all along that we like him and we want him to stay.

"Now we have the chance to work with him further on his game, develop certain things because we know he's a very talented player.

"He wanted to consider all of his options and we understood that, but we're really pleased that he has committed to us and to the fans."

We can also confirm that Powelly will take squad number 7 for next season!
