BURTON ALBION COMPLETE LOAN SIGNING OF TYLER ONYANGO FROM EVERTON

27 July 2022

BURTON Albion Football Club is delighted to confirm the signing of England Under-18 international Tyler Onyango from Everton on a season-long loan deal.

Onyango joins the Brewers just days before our season opener away at Wycombe Wanderers - training with the first team squad for the first time on Monday.

The 19-year-old central midfielder has been part of the Toffees' Academy set-up at Finch Farm since the age of eight, going on to become a regular for Everton's U23s side and featuring in Premier League 2.

Onyango signed his first professional contract, a three-year deal, with Everton in 2020 and the talented midfielder has since gone on to make four first team appearances in total for the senior side, including three in the Premier League last season against Manchester City, Chelsea and Aston Villa.

Now Onyango is linking up with Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink's Brewers for the 2022/23 campaign, and the Brewers manager is really pleased to have got the young midfielder through the door.

"He's a very talented young boy and we're pleased as we felt we needed more midfielders," said Hasselbaink.

"We think he will bring quality to our midfield, along with steel and energy.

He's got a bright future ahead and we're happy and thankful that Everton are trusting us with their big asset."

Onyango is similarly pleased to be linking up with the Brewers, admitting the move has been in the offing for a few weeks.

"I'm delighted to be here," said Onyango.

"It's something I've really been looking forward to over the last few weeks, as soon as I knew about the interest I've been desperate to get here and I'm delighted to be in the building, and to get to work.

"I've known about the interest ever since I went back for pre-season. This is my first loan spell - I've been with Everton since I was eight and that's the only environment I've ever known.

"It's something totally different but I've met the players, the staff and they've all been really welcoming."

Welcome to Burton Albion, Tyler!
