BURTON Albion Football Club is delighted to confirm that midfielder Michael Mancienne has signed a new one-year contract at the Pirelli Stadium!

Mancienne initially signed for the Brewers on a short-term contract in February 2021, extending his stay the following summer and making 41 appearances for Albion in total.

The 34-year-old began his career with Chelsea, coming through the youth ranks at Cobham and catching the eye with a series of loan spells at Queens Park Rangers and Wolves.

A permanent move to Hamburg followed in 2011 before Mancienne returned to England, spending three years with Nottingham Forest prior to a spell in America with New England Revolution.

Mancienne has operated in both central defence and central midfield in his time at the Pirelli Stadium and manager Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink is delighted to have such a versatile player signed up for 2022/23.

"Mance is a rock," said Hasselbaink. "He is somebody that, off the pitch and on it, leads by example.

"It's very important for us to be able to keep him. He wants to play - he knows he's not going to play every match but he needs to help us with the younger players, and he's happy to do that.

"His role is very important. He's got tons of experience, he's a really good character and I'm really happy that he's signed."

Mancienne says his intention was always to stay at Burton Albion and is pleased to have got the deal signed.

"I've been happy ever since I first came here, and it was a no-brainer to sign for another year," said Mancienne. "I'm happy and my family are really happy.

"It was a very easy decision. When I spoke to the gaffer at the end of the season about staying another year, I said 'yeah' without even thinking about it.

"Hopefully we can push on and do good things next season."
