BRAYFORD SIGNS NEW TWO-YEAR DEAL

16 June 2022

CLUB captain John Brayford has signed a new two-year contract with Burton Albion.

Last season the defender’s wholehearted performances led to him winning both the Players’ Player of the Season and the Supporters’ Player of the Season awards. In addition, he won the Player in the Community award marking an unprecedented treble.

Brayford was out of contract this summer, but has committed to extending his Burton Albion career after returning to the Pirelli Stadium in 2016 and originally playing for the club as a teenager in our non-league days.

Manager Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink said: “We are delighted that the captain has signed a new two-year deal. He is a very important person at the club both on the pitch and off the pitch for the group. He is a leader, and they are very difficult to find, and we are very happy he is staying.

“He leads by example in the right way and he’s our Player of the Year, our club captain and one of the fans’ favourites and we don’t really want to let those kind of players go.”

Brayford said: “It’s amazing to get it all finally sorted and to tie it down to two years at this club is brilliant for myself and I can’t wait to get going in pre-season now.

“There have been a few negotiations here and there, but I certainly wanted to stay at this football club and help Burton Albion progress.

“Me and the gaffer have a great working relationship on and off the pitch and that’s what the club’s all about. The community work here is something I take great pride in and I want to carry on that as well as hopefully continuing to perform on the pitch at the same time.”
