ACADEMY HOST FIRST AWARDS NIGHT IN THREE YEARS

18 May 2022

BURTON Albion Academy hosted their first awards night in three years on Monday night at the Pirelli Stadium.

Hosted by Burton Albion Hall of Famer and Academy coach Aaron Webster and Burton Albion Matchday Coordinator Reece Brown, the night was the first time since 2019 the Academy have had the opportunity to celebrate the success of the next generation of Burton Albion players.

It was also a chance for the sponsors of each respective age group to meet their squad's players and have a group photo taken.

The evening featured a Q&A with first team Academy graduates Tom Hewlett and Charlie Williams, as well as scholars Jakub Niemczyk and Ben Radcliffe, who have both been offered professional deals.

The lads talked through their individual journeys to scholarship and professional contracts, as well as their battles with long-term injuries.

Following the insightful chat, an interview with Academy Manager Dan Robinson followed before finishing with a silent auction and game of silent bingo.

A Goal of the Season vote was published to everyone on the night and the winner was Harry Pilgrim for his goal against Mansfield Town.

Dan Robinson said: “After not being able to host an awards night for three years due to the pandemic, it was a joy to finally be able to host it again.

"Seeing all of our academy age groups together in one room was brilliant and I cant wait for next season!

“I hope they learned a lot from the Q&A with Tom (Hewlett), Charlie (Williams), Ben (Radcliffe) and Kuba (Niemczyk) as those boys have been through so much and they all deserve to be where thye are. Aaron was a fantastic host!”
