MANAGER'S VERDICT: PLYMOUTH

19 November 2022

DINO Maamria praised his team’s never say die attitude as they snatched a stoppage time equaliser to secure a point against league leaders Plymouth

Albion had taken the lead through Bobby Kamwa and had denied the visitors even a sniff of a goal for 60 minutes until a penalty decision pulled Plymouth level. They then took the lead through a fine Bali Mumba finish and Albion’s valiant efforts could have been for nothing until Adrian Mariappa headed home at the death to make it 2-2.

The Albion manager said: “It was a fantastic game of football and our team finished very strongly. The character, the desire, the will to win and the Pirelli Stadium rocking – there were a lot of good things from this game.

“The situation we are in it doesn’t matter who you are playing against you have to be brave and bold and we were both. We went with three forwards and at home we have a constant belief we can win the game.

“The first half was an outstanding performance, and they didn’t have a shot. The only disappointing thing was that we only scored one goal.

“We know they would come stronger after that and they changed their shape. We didn’t carry on the football we played first half, but they are a good team and we have to respect that.

“I was disappointed with the goals we conceded as both came from transition when we should be in control.

“We have a lot of desire, a lot of energy but as a young team we don’t always have the knowhow. But we will keep learning and as long as we keep showing that work ethic we can come back.

“It was exciting for everybody today and we will take the point against the leaders and move on.”
