BREWERS manager Dino Maamria was delighted to welcome the winners of the recent flag competition to the Pirelli Stadium on Saturday to get a sneak peak of their designs before the fixture against Forest Green.

The Raygar (North) Stand is now home to eight fantastic fan-designed flags, which were specially selected by Chairman Ben Robinson and club captain John Brayford.

Our in-house graphic designer Matt Large turned the winning designs into reality, and you can now see them at every home match.

The winners got early access to the ground to view their creations with a surprise visit from manager Dino Maamria and Billy Brewer while they also got exclusive access to the home dressing room before the match.

The youngest winner was Freddie Mellish who is celebrating his 6th birthday this week. He designed his flag to incorporate Billy and Bettie, who he believes make Burton Albion fans feel like a family.

Freddie was delighted by Billy’s surprise visit to congratulate him on his fantastic design and exclaimed: “I really like Billy. I think he is a great mascot, and I am so glad I got to meet him today. I am very proud of my flag, and I like that it is going to be here basically forever.”

Freddie was joined by his father Mark who was delighted by the club’s active efforts to include fans and in particular young Brewers such as Freddie. Mark believes that “the club really brings the community together and as a family we love coming to games so it’s lovely that we will always be able to see Freddie’s flag every match from where we sit in the Carling Stand”.

Eleven-year-old Ethan Belcher was over the moon to see his flag in person and was praised by the judges for his simple design that stood out from the entries.

Ethan stated: “I wanted to keep it simple as I think sometimes the simple things are the best! I added ‘BAFC’ onto the flag because it’s my favourite chant.”

Father Garry added: “It’s been a 10/10 experience from start to finish. It’s just brilliant to see how much the club wants to get its fans involved. I am so proud of Ethan – he did it all on his own.”

Young Brewer Liv Martin (11) was another lucky winner.

She said: “I love night games, they are my favourite – the atmosphere is amazing and that inspired my flag.”

Liv plays as a left winger and that morning had raced from her fixture against Derby County to attend Pirelli Stadium and was delighted to get a photo in the dressing room next to her favourite player, Captain John Brayford’s home strip.

Season ticket holder Peter Rose who was joined by his wife Sally, regularly travels from Sutton Coldfield to support the Brewers in their quest for a more authentic football experience and a proper community feel. Peter, who is blind, sits in the Carling Stand and listens to Radio Derby presenters Dave Fletcher and Tony Bentley’s match commentary.

He wanted his flag to represent the importance of inclusivity within the football community. Peter explained that: “I got a piece of A4 and folded it in half both ways to make a cross and I then used that to sketch in each quadrant and then Sally kindly put it on the computer. I am absolutely thrilled to bits that my flag got chosen and the experience here today!”

Another winner was Billy Brewer himself, who entered the competition and designed his own flag. The judges decided that Billy could have his own flag which is now also on display.

Another winner, who couldn’t be with us on Saturday, was Nolan Salmon and the judges loved the theme of belonging that was behind his idea

Among the flood of entries were two from a Brewers fan who follows the games from his home in India. Pratyush Shankar’s designs were so good that the judges decided to include both in the final eight.

Dino Maamria said: “The flags look fantastic - I think they are a brilliant addition to the stadium. Thank you to all the Brewers who entered the competition, and it was a pleasure to meet all the winners and show them the home dressing room.”

Can’t get enough of the Brewers?

We are currently offering two lucky Brewers the opportunity to win a signed copy of the newly released FIFA 23 on XBOX and PS5 – check out our TikTok (@officialburtonalbion) for more details.
