REPORT | BURTON ALBION DEVELOPMENT SQUAD 2-5 HEDNESFORD TOWN

10 October 2022

BURTON Albion's Development Squad suffered a second successive defeat - beaten 5-2 at home by Hednesford Town in a closer game than the scoreline suggested.

The Brewers started the brighter of the two sides, going close after just five minutes through midfielder Millie Cokayne who brushed the crossbar with a long-range effort.

But as the game settled into a closer affair, with both sides limited to half-chances, the Brewers suffered a blow as forward Sommer Button was forced off injured close to the end of the first half.

And Town subsequently took advantage, snatching a first half lead through Sophie ROWLANDS.

HALF-TIME: BURTON ALBION 0-1 HEDNESFORD TOWN

And though the Brewers again started the second half well, Town would blow the Brewers away with a goalscoring blitz, with Jessica FOWLER, Emily WALKER, Chloe ASTELL and Aaliyah NEALE all getting on the scoresheet to give the visitors a five-goal lead.

But the Brewers would regain composure and dominance and net twice themselves, both through COKAYNE. The first goal saw Cokayne finish well after a good cross led to a mishap in the Hednesford defence, before COKAYNE netted from an acute angle free-kick.

"Well played to Hednesford," said Devs manager Ian Hudson.

"It's another learning experience for us after last week, but the last 15 minutes of the game should show us what we're capable of going forward.

"I want to give special mentions to Maggie Croxall and Sophie Blackshields, who made their Devs debuts here - we'll look to their experience in future games."
