BREWERS OPEN POP UP BRA BANK TO SUPPORT CHARITY

11 October 2022

BURTON Albion FC is hosting a pop-up bra bank in honour of Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

Breast cancer is the most common cancer in women in the UK with one woman being diagnosed every 10 minutes and 370 men also diagnosed with breast cancer every year in the UK (Breast Cancer Now, 2021).

In support of finding a cure for breast cancer,  Burton Albion will be hosting a pop up bra bank in collaboration with UK based charity Against Breast Cancer. The charity funds groundbreaking cancer research to improve the detection of breast cancer, treatment of patients and to increase the survival rate after a breast cancer diagnosis. The primary focus of their research is preventing the secondary spread of breast cancer, which is the main cause of breast cancer related deaths.

One of the charity's main sources of fundraising is through a bra recycling scheme which gives your unwanted and unloved bras a new lease of life in a developing country, while raising vital funds for pioneering breast cancer research.

The textile recovery project is a socially and environmentally conscious initiative that prevents hundreds of bras going into landfill while supporting women in developing countries where bras remain expensive to produce and purchase locally. For every tonne of bras collected by Against Breast Cancer, the charity receives £700 to fund their research.

The pop up bra bank will run from Saturday 15th October to Monday 17th October. Donations will be welcome in the donation boxes at the Family Zone from 90 minutes before the kick off of Saturday’s home fixture against Morecambe and in the Community Trust Building until 3pm on Monday.

Please ensure that all donations are clean and are in condition that means that they are fit for purpose. We recommend using the guide provided if you have any queries about the types of donations we will be accepting.

If you cannot get your donations to us by the deadline - don’t worry!

Against Breast Cancer is accepting donations all year round. For large quantities of donations, we recommend finding your local permanent bra bank donation point here: https://www.againstbreastcancer.org.uk/recycling/bra-recycling

For small donations that can fit in a parcel please send your donations directly to Against Breast Cancer:
