BURTON Albion FC hosted a pop-up bra bank in honour of Breast Cancer Awareness Month last weekend with nearly 100 donations made.

In support of finding a cure for breast cancer, Burton Albion hosted a pop-up bra bank in collaboration with UK based charity Against Breast Cancer to help fund groundbreaking cancer research to improve the detection of breast cancer, treatment of patients and to increase the survival rate after a breast cancer diagnosis.

The bra recycling scheme gives unwanted and unloved bras a new lease of life in a developing country, while raising vital funds for pioneering breast cancer research.

The pop-up bra bank ran from Saturday 15th October to Monday 17th October with donations flooding in at the Family Zone before the kick off at our last home fixture against Morecambe and in the Community Trust Building.

We are proud to announce that thanks to your kind donations we have 91 bras which will be transported across the world to help women in need and for every tonne of bras that Against Breast Cancer’s collect nationally they will raise £700 to fund their research.

As we continue into Breast Cancer Awareness Month, we hope to raise awareness of the symptoms of breast cancer which is the most common cancer in women in the UK with one woman being diagnosed every 10 minutes and 370 men also diagnosed with breast cancer every year in the UK (Breast Cancer Now, 2021).

The symptoms of breast cancer are varied so we have included some helpful graphics in this article which you can save onto your device for reference when you self-examine.

If you did not get chance to pop your donations down to Pirelli Stadium - don’t worry you can still donate.

Against Breast Cancer accept bra and clothing donations all year round. For large quantities of donations, we recommend finding your local permanent bra bank donation point here:
