MANAGER'S VERDICT: CHELTENHAM TOWN

22 October 2022

DINO Maamria said his team deserved the three points today after securing a  1-0 victory over Cheltenham Town.

That made it two wins and a draw in the three home games this week, and a second clean sheet but the Brewers had to be patient. After Davis Keillor-Dunn missed a first half penalty, it was Victor Adeboyejo who again proved the match winner for the Brewers with a strike in the 77th minute.

The Brewers manager said: “There was only one team in it , and we had over 60 per cent possession. We had 16 shots on goal, and we hardly had a shot to save. The penalty in the first half was the least we deserved but then we missed it. But we showed resilience and came out second half and upped the game again.

“I was pleased with the clean sheet, and it’s been a good month so far for us and the players have been brilliant, and they showed that again today.

“I didn’t enjoy our game against Morecambe last week as we didn’t really pass the ball and that’s not the type of football we are trying to play here. That was much better today and leading up to the penalty we made 26 passes. At half-time I just asked them to keep playing the same way but to up the tempo and we did that.

“I think our subs always make a difference and they did that today. When I pick the team, I’m always thinking about what changes we are going to make and Jonny Smith came on and did what he does, created a goal and the changes paid dividends. And the finish from Victor was fantastic.

“Victor has a smile on his face every day, works his hardest all the time and he’s scored again today and it’s great to see.”

The Brewers now travel to two promotion chasing side with trips to Bolton on Tuesday and Sheffield Wednesday on Saturday.

Maamria said: “Teams playing against Burton Albion now know we are going to be in the game.

“Now we have to rest and recover, and look forward to Tuesday night. Bolton had a good win today and it’s not an easy place to go but we are ready for it.”
