DINO Maamria says that the Burton Albion squad is good enough to win games and he hopes that they can quickly turn around the club’s fortunes.

Albion are still searching for a first win of the league season but have back-to-back home games against Fleetwood on Saturday and Portsmouth on Tuesday.

Maamria, holding his first press conference since the departure of Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink on Monday, is convinced that the players he has at his disposal can deliver.

He said “The biggest thing for me as that I have such great rapport with those players ,and they need help, guidance and mentoring.

“Today I woke up energised and ready to go. I’m loving the time I have spent with the players on the training pitch and in one-to-one meetings.

“We are capable of winning football matches and hopefully we will show that on Saturday and we will see the energy of the whole team and with the backing of our fans we will hopefully see something different to the last few months.”

Maamria admits that it’s a big challenge but urges the fans to get behind the lads and make a difference.

He said: “The fans have been absolutely outstanding, and I will always remember Sunderland away on a Tuesday night and the commitment that takes. I understand what they need and what they want. And my journey has been with very similar clubs to Burton Albion.

“I understand what the fans expect and that they want to see a team that’s fully committed and they are intelligent fans. They see the games and when they see the effort they will always applaud us off the pitch.

“No-one hates losing more than me and I feel the pain.

“Changing that is a process. I have to understand it and to break it down but the biggest thing for me is the psychology of the team because these lads can play football.

"We will make mistakes but it’s all about heart, and giving all you have got.”
