BURTON Albion Football Club is delighted to confirm the signing of winger Mustapha Carayol on a short-term contract.
The experienced attacker, who has been training with the first team at St George's Park, follows striker Sam Winnall in joining the Brewers as a free agent, adding vital experience to Albion's front line.
Carayol made his senior debut for MK Dons in 2007 before joining Torquay United the following year and having spells at Lincoln City and Bristol Rovers prior to a move to Middlesbrough in 2012.
At the Riverside Stadium, Carayol would score 11 goals in 50 games before moving on to Nottingham Forest and then Ipswich Town, garnering plenty of Championship experience over those six years.
Carayol spent two years playing abroad from there, first with Apollon Limassol in Cyprus and then with Adana Demirspor in Turkey, before returning to England and spending two seasons in League One with Gillingham, who he left at the end of last season.
Now with the Brewers, Carayol is keen to show our fans what he is all about.
"I'm happy to have the opportunity to be back playing football," said Carayol. "Hopefully I can help the boys out.
"I found out about the interest about 10 days ago. I've been training for the last week, I've really enjoyed it and I'm happy that we came to an agreement.
"Everyone is upbeat and I feel like the boys have a smile on their faces. We've got some really good, talented footballers and I know a few of them from playing against them."
Dino Maamria thinks Carayol will add some much-needed experience to our frontline, along with the addition of Winnall.
"Mustapha has been training with us for the past few days," said Maamria. "His quality has always been there.
"First and foremost he's a brilliant character. Young players would love to play alongside him and he's shown that already.
"He can give us that forward option that we're currently lacking, and hopefully give the team more confidence, and allow the players around him to flourish."
Carayol is available for selection for tomorrow night's game at home to Portsmouth, and will wear squad number 21 in his time with the Brewers.
