DINO Maamria was full of praise for his Burton Albion side as we picked up our first win and clean sheet of the season away at Exeter City this afternoon.

Second half goals from Deji Oshilaja and Davis Keillor-Dunn ensured the Brewers took a deserved three points in an impressive away performance.

It was a result and performance that sent the 146 travelling Brewers, in fine voice throughout, extremely happy.

And Maamria was quick to point out the reaction his side have given him in the last 10 days.

“The reaction has been nothing short of outstanding,” said Maamria.

“Not just the players, but the fans, the staff, everybody in the stadium working at the football club - they deserve this. There’s a total togetherness.

“Last night, at the hotel, we had our directors with us, we had our media team with us. Rob - our media guy - it’s his birthday and we had to win for him!

“But there’s a lot of reasons we had to win, we always have to find that reason.”

Albion went in at the break frustrated at not having made a deserved breakthrough, with Joe Powell and Keillor-Dunn both going close.

Maamria said that persistence was the key - and that was the message to the players at half-time.

“You’ve got to be persistent,” said Maamria. “I told the team at half-time about persistence, you have to keep doing what you’re doing and not give in.

“That’s what we did second half. Confidence has been really low and that’s a big, big factor - the players were like warriors today.

“You see how the back four defended, that’s a lot of video work and work on the training ground.

“All those things have come together today to allow us to create those chances we created.

“The front three too. Victor was outstanding and dealt with their three. Our gameplay worked brilliantly first half. They’re a very, very strong team at home.”
