MAAMRIA DROPS IN ON WALKING FOOTBALL TOURNAMENT

27 September 2022

BURTON Albion men’s first team manager Dino Maamria attended Burton Albion Community Trust’s  walking football tournament.

Maamria stopped by to spectate at the tournament in which saw more than 50 people in attendance from seven teams.

Wolverhampton Wanderers Foundation, Stoke City Community Trust, Ashbourne WFC, Hartshill Strollers, Birmingham Sky Blues and Burton Albion Community Trust all competed in the tournament.

After lots of entertaining matches, it came down to Ashbourne WFC and Hartshill Strollers in the final. In a close and competitive affair, it was Ashbourne who ran out the winners on the day, taking home the annual tournament shield and a trophy to keep.

Dino Maamria said: “What an event. The football was a really good standard and the whole afternoon was played in the correct spirit.”

Tournament organiser and BACT Health & Wellbeing Coordinator Neil Taylor said: “It’s been a brilliant day. Having the manager down was a huge bonus and he had so much time for everyone.

“It’s great to see so many people getting together and wanting to play walking football. We can’t wait for next year’s tournament.”

Walking football is a slower version of the beautiful game and is aimed at men and women over 50. It is a great way for people to continue playing football and also comes with physical and mental health benefits as well as social benefits.

We currently offer three walking sessions a week and have two teams who play in the Derbyshire Walking Football League.
